Do's And Don'ts

Do Drain water from hoses before winter freezing weather Wear Safety Glasses when using skill saws and chop saws and when doing demolition work... Always wear rubber gloves and goggles when working with acid materials like trisodium phosphate. Do your sawing outdoors as much as possible - or dust will get every where.... Tape plastic up over room entrances to help keep dust from getting into the rest of the house.... Turn off hoses for washing machines, dishwashers, and garden hoses when not in use. Especially when going on vacation.... Run water into seldom used sinks and other drains once in a while to make sure there is water in the trap. Otherwise, sewer gas may come up through the drains into your house. Spray silicone spray on sliding door  and window tracks once in a while to keep them sliding easily... Drain your water heater once or twice a year to remove sediment.. When installing more than one roll of wall paper in a room, make sure all rolls have the same batch numbers...buy more than you need as it may be hard to find the same batch when needed later... Use cat litter with, or in place of, salt to keep from slipping on ice...

Don't Don't "bite off more than you can chew". In other-words, know your limits... Don't put rags that have any solvents on them like gasoline, mineral spirits or the like in your back pocket...it will "burn your but" Don't put rags used to apply linseed oil in a pile...they will start spontaneous combustion = a fire... Don't use a grinding wheel near flamable materials, this includes dry grass....... Don’t stand on the top two treads of a ladder. Work within easy arm’s reach, with one hand on the ladder. Don't use chlorine based toilet cleaners that sit in the tank (OK if in the bowl). The chlorine disintegrates the rubber parts in the tank... Better to use the type that hangs in the tank & dispenses cleaner into the fill tube.
